More sayings . . . .
1. "Just us chickens." My mother was an English teacher so I am sure this is some quote she picked up from somewhere and used it as a joke. This was said in reply to, "Who's there?"
2. "And that's a whole nother batch of cats." My mother often explained that "nother" was not a word so this is some saying picked up from somewhere and used with a smile on her face. This was like saying, "And that's another story!"
3. "Out/Off on a lark." The Free Dictionary says this means doing something for fun.
4. "The hired help." When Mom came upon kids or people working, she would often say, "How's the hired help?"
5. To describe someone who was acting crazy or to refer to herself after doing something crazy, Mom might say that person was, "crazy as a loon" or "batty."
Quirks and all, it was good fun!
