I dried some and froze the rest of them. There were still plenty of cherries high up in the tree for the birds, so we were all happy!
The next crop around here is peaches. One relatively new tree bore fruit this year. I have never dealt with cling peaches that "clung" like these peaches. I told B that if he ever turned his back, I'd be out chopping that tree down. I made a couple of batches of peach/raspberry/strawberry jam (with jello, not pectin) and one batch of strawberry jam (with pectin) because I overestimated how many strawberries I needed so then I needed to put them to good use.
My in-laws have given us several heads of cabbage. What to do with so much cabbage, you ask? Here is a nice recipe for a hamburger/cabbage casserole.
1/2 lb of hamburger, cooked and seasoned
1 onion, chopped and cooked with the hamburger
6 cups of chopped cabbage
1 10-oz. can of tomato soup.
Use a 13x9 baking dish.
Put three cups of the chopped, raw cabbage into the bottom on the baking dish.
Add the hamburger and onion in a layer over the top of that.
Then layer the next 3 cups of cabbage on top of that.
Spread the tomato soup (not diluted) over the top of that.
Cover with tin foil and cook at 300 for 1 hour.
This makes enough for about four people.
My family requested rice or noodles as a side dish--something starchy to go along with the hamburger/vegetables.
That's just some produce talk here at 2pattyesque . . .

You are so thoughtful to leave some cherries for the birds. And I'm in agreement about the cling peaches. Down with the tree!
How does one make peach, strawberry, raspberry jam with jello? That sounds wonderful!
