Approaching Twenty

*To put a spin on Dr. Seuss' Oh the Places You'll Go!

Congratulations to us!  

That was our day!

We were off to Great Places! 

We were off and away!

We had brains in our head. 

We had feet in our shoes.

We commenced on our journey, 

and followed Life's cues. 

With our head full of brains 

And our shoes full of feet, 

We've marched through the years 

Like we'd march down the street.

As we marched along, 

Things did happen, you see, 

To people as brainy 

And footsy as we.

Three kids and a mortgage.  

Retirement, too.

Operations and setbacks, 

Huge windfalls--it's true.

Parties at New Year's,

Christmas lights in the yard!

Fire seasons' demands,

(Sometimes it was hard).

Glass floats on the beach.

Teenagers, my mother.

Grey hair coming in.

No year like another.

A dog, fun vacations, 

And housework galore.

Car trouble, the sweet times, 

And very much more.

There was more good than bad

As we've marched along.

And now we're at 20, 

We're still marching strong.

Oh!  The places you'll go, 

After you say, "I do."

I've lived it myself.

I know that it's true.
