Spring activities

Spring has come, even if the weather is ambivalent, and with spring has come some springtime activities!  First, L has joined the track team.  She's had two meets so far and lots of practices.

This is a picture of her getting set up to run the 200 M.  She also ran the 4 x 100 relay at that meet.  B and I froze watching this meet because of howling winds and we learned something.  Track meets involve a LOT of waiting between your child's events.

Here is L on the second day of her first meet.  The weather had greatly improved, thank goodness.

Here is L at her second meet yesterday.  She ran the 100M and the 400M.  She took third in her heat for the 400M.  I know that seeing her in these pictures just standing there between races loses some of the effect but I took videos of her races and they either can't be posted here OR I can't figure it out.  Either one produces the same effect--no videos posted.

Yesterday evening, L was inducted into the Junior Honor Society, along with a small group of others.  In this picture the principal Dr. H is presenting L with her certificate.  My photography needs work!

Seated far left is NB (one of L's BFFs) who is already in the Junior Honor Society, L, a girl I don't know, TB and KH another two of L's BFFs and a young man I don't know.

Here is J at his soccer game yesterday.  It was a lucky shot--I was taking the picture before the ball came into view!  J has been playing soccer this spring but this tri-city's season is only about four weeks long.  I can't talk J into playing club soccer.  He wants to play for fun and play with his local friends.

Here's J "in action" again.  I really enjoy watching the kids doing things they enjoy.

If you know me, you know I can't blog about two kids without writing at least something about all three--one, yes, but not two without the third.  Personality flaw of mine or something.

Anyway, spring finds T doing a lot of the above (electronic gaming) with a series of friends and relatives.  XBOX Live opens up all kinds of social possibilities.  T did a research paper for his English class on the positive effects of electronic gaming and he likes to remind me of the proof that electronic gaming is not isolating but encourages socializing.

Anyway, besides the obvious electronic gaming activities, he is in the Nerds Anonymous Club at school and the club's main pursuit is playing Dungeons and Dragons.  T enjoys learning to play D and D.

My boys have written several such papers praising the positive attributes of electronic gaming: increased hand-eye coordination, heightened problem-solving skills, and yes, enhanced social opportunities. I'm sure there's merit to these arguments. Considering the hours my boys spend gaming, I NEED to believe there is.
